Rob Zombie’s New Television Show

The Venerable Rob Zombie

Recently, I was checking out MySpace.com and happened upon the official page for Rob Zombie. Reading his blog, I found the following entry from Mr. Zombie, himself:

"Starting in October I will be hosting my own movie show on Turner Classic Movies. It is a movie show where I will be hosting and showing cult and underground. Things ranging from Ed Wood classics like Bride of the Monster to Russ Meyer’s Mudhoney. All good stuff."

Being a fan of Rob Zombie’s music (though I’ve not seen his movies yet) and having seen him live in concert, I was more than thrilled. I’d enjoyed Joe Bob Brigg’s Monstervision on TNT, which was in a similar vein, and was sorry to see it taken off the air. I did a little more research and here’s what I found:

The show will be called TCM Undergroundand it will air on Turner Classic Movies, a cable channel which reaches over 70 million homes. This is TCM’s overture to a younger audience, so they believe that Rob Zombie is the perfect host for a show that will feature cult classics, offbeat features and under-appreciated films that Mr. Zombie will be selecting himself. Known as a true auteur filmmaker, Rob Zombie has established himself as a capable creative force who takes full responsibility for the quality of his work. So far he’s directed more than 25 music videos and 2 feature films (House of 1,000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects). In terms of music, he’s sold over fifteen million records worldwide.

We are proud to have a talent like Rob Zombie hosting this showcase, which is certain to broaden TCM’s appeal beyond our loyal core audience,” Tom Karsch, executive vice president and general manager for TCM has been quoted as saying in an official press release.

Frankly, I couldn’t agree more. Clearly, Rob Zombie has not only the celebrity weight, but also the artistic integrity to deliver the goods for TCM Underground. His engaging personality and devout love of the horror genre will serve him well. I don’t know about you, but I just might subscribe to cable for this show alone!

Way to go, Mr. Zombie, you’ve come along way from production assistant on Pee-Wee’s Playhouse and designing porn magazines; you’ve earned this show. Now if we could only get Marilyn Manson to host a TV show…

[Editor's note: We re-run these articles so that we can preserve some of Happy Horror's past now that we're on a new host, but sometimes the information is outdated. That's the case with this article. Apparently, Rob Zombie stopped hosting in 2007. You can read about it in the link above to wikipedia regarding TCM Underground. Thank you for bearing with us while the older articles finish going up!]
