Moonlight Canceled?

Moonlight on CBS

Here at the old Double H we’re not just into horror movies, books and games. We also enjoy some of the horror TV series that have graced our televisions from time to time. We’ve covered Tales from the Crypt, reminisced about Shadow Theater and we’re quite excited about the upcoming series Fear Itself. However, I’d like to bring your attention to another show, Moonlight on CBS.

Moonlight was one of the shows that first aired last year and was affected by the writers’ strike. It tells the story of Mick St. John, a vampire private investigator living in Los Angeles. It’s also the story of Beth, a reporter whose life was saved by Mick when she was a little girl. Over the course of the season we watched Mick and Beth get closer emotionally, despite Beth’s pre-existing relationship with her district attorney boyfriend, Josh. We also met Mick’s vampire friend Josef, who we’re told has been living for several centuries.

The show did really initially as its slot situated it between Ghost Whisperer and Numb3rs. The series even earned a People’s Choice Award for Best New Series. However, as John Goodman’s 2001 sitcom Normal, Ohio shows - that’s not always good enough as CBS has decided to cancel both Moonlight and Shark.

Now, I realize that one person doesn’t really mean much in the long run, but maybe alot of people can. If you care about Moonlight at all, please go to CBS.com and voice your displeasure or if you’d rather join the 3,300+ fans who’ve already signed a petition head on over to IPetitions‘ "Give Moonlight a Second Season!!!"

As horror fans, we’ve got to speak up for our genre or executives in the entertainment industries may never know that we truly care about our favorite shows. Thanks for the time to read and maybe even clicking. I’m planning an article on the series in the future for those of you who may have missed this season, so please stop back soon!

Until next time, this is Red Hawk signing out!

[Editor's note: You can call CBS here 1(323)651-0255) to ask them to bring the show back!]

[UPDATE! Thanks to Taylor Blue over at Taylor's Entertainment News for letting us know about a letter to the fans of Moonlight from Alex O'Loughlin who plays Mick St. John on the show! You can find that letter by CLICKING HERE]

  1. Taylor Blue Says:

I think that the show is done. CW has optioned not to take it and no one else does either. I just hope it’s just a nasty rumor and it does come back… :(

  2. GlowStormLion Says:

I hope it’s a tactic to see who all speaks up about it, you know? Also, it’s possible another network could pick the show up, right?

I’m hoping like crazy they change their minds SOMEHOW!

  3. Taylor Blue Says:

I thought CW was thinking about it but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen…I think it was a dumb move for CBS…and you know i have never felt more passionate about a show in my life! Mick St John…was magical…I wish they new that!

  4. GlowStormLion Says:

It makes about as much sense as canceling Buffy or X-Files or Charmed in THEIR first seasons, right??

  5. Taylor Blue Says:

Yeah…did you read the letter from Alex I put up on my site today? He said he always had to defend himself to them and they really didn’t believe in him. I must admit I watched the episode where that actress got killed…i’m a few behind…and that episode was really crappy. IT’s horrible that the writer’s strike got in the way of the magic that was built up. But I mean literally I am heart broken. I don’t know why but this show has something and they are dumb to abandon it!

  6. GlowStormLion Says:

I did read it - thank you for pointing it out, I credited you with the find in this post, too. :) That’s really sad he had to struggle so much for a show that was clearly first class. They did this to Serenity/Firefly, too, and I totally dug that show!

  7. Taylor Blue Says:

Thanks…It really meant a lot to me to see that Alex took the time to write a letter to the fans. That’s why I thought I would tell you. It was a first class show and I don’t think that anyone else could have brought the magic he did to it.

  8. GlowStormLion Says:

I’m glad you did! You’re right, he’s got my total admiration not just for being so strong throughout the show’s history but also for not being afraid to speak directly to the fanbase.

  9. Carolina (Chile) Says:

English translation of Carolina’s comment (Traducción inglesa de Carolina’ comentario de s):

“I add me to the thousands of fans that the Moonlight series managed to acquire thanks to the perfect complement of all components, script, thematic, environment adjustment and by coverall, chemistry between the work party, especially between the protagonists. I must recognize that long ago, a series did not manage to cause in a my species of addiction… but Moonlight, with all their imagination and obtained it to romanticism. I believe that CBS is committing a very serious error… In addition, they are losing an incredibly charismatic actor (Alex), whose destiny is definitively to be recognized. It will demonstrate it to the time… does not fit the smaller doubt to me.”

English: Carolina, your comment was so deep and passionate that I had to translate it for those who do not speak Spanish. I hope you do not mind? Thank you for expressing what I believe many fans also feel about this television show that brought so many people happiness each week. You expressed yourself beautifully. You are a true Moonlight fan in my eyes.
