Terror Track Tuesday #3: Rot for Me by Wednesday 13
June 3rd, 2008
Finally another Tuesday (sorry I wasn’t clever enough to wait until tomorrow - d’oh!) which means yet another opportunity to assault the ears of you Merry Readers with music I favor. Well, okay, really I hope to expose you to something cool or remind you of a long lost loved song or something more positive, but it still needs to look cool! That said, this week’s Terror Track is Rot for Me by the band Wednesday 13. Not Wednesday Thirteen, but 13. Like the number.
First, let me tell you a brief but touching tale. See, I first heard of this band rather randomly during an era of my life which I spent drinking boxed wine and chatting way too much while writing a lot of poetry. The poetry actually turned out pretty good, but that’s a whole other story. During this era I met and became entranced by a certain Southern girl and we fired up a long distance relationship. Rot for Me was our song. Note I said was. I guess that makes sense, right? Probably not the best couple song on the planet, but hey, at least this song’s probably not widely used for that purpose. We were original! Besides, other than that she liked top 40’s hip hop and the Pussycat Dolls.

The band Wednesday 13 seems tricky to describe. One of those "you hafta hear ‘em" bands, I guess you could say. Descriptions of their sound range from horror punk to death glam to horror metal - but one thing’s for sure: they love their horror movies! A good deal of their inspiration, particularly lead singer Wednesday 13 (from whom the band took its name, shockingly enough). Musical inspirations would be KISS (Knights in Satan’s Service, dontcha know!) and the venerable Alice Cooper
. They’ve got a catchy style and great antics to keep the crowds interested and their fans (the ‘Ghoul Scouts’, as Wednesday fondly calls them) rockin’ along.
Wednesday 13 himself, who hails from Charlotte, North Carolina, has been around the music scene since 1992. Not only does he perform duties as frontman (lead vocalist), all the lyrics are penned by his hand, as well. He’s been part of a great many bands, all of which share a horror vibe. There’s the Murderdolls (which features Joey Jordison of Slipknot
and Ministry
fame), Maniac Spider Trash, Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13
and Bourbon Crow
(a sort of dark villainous take on country music). All great stuff if you ask me! He’s got a clothing line called Thirteen Dead Kids, but I can’t seem to find a website for it, sadly, or I’d link to it, as well.
Rot for Me is on the 12th track of the album Transylvania 90210: Songs of Death, Dying and the Dead.. here in the US we totally got robbed because only in the Japanese version of the album can you get the bonus track: Thank You Satan (not to be confused with this
or this
or this
which are from different groups altogether).
Now, as for the song specifically I truly do like the lyrics because they’re pretty clever. It’s catchy and that’s why the ex really dug on it. Any time you find yourself humming the tune to phrases like "Rot! Rot for meeee, my darling" you know the artist did a damn fine job of composing a memorable melody!
If you’d like to grab the mp3 of Rot for Me, you’ll be happy to know it’s available for download at this location.
The band’s also got a well-established Myspace profile you can visit. Maybe you’ll want to friend them like I did on my profile. Transylvania 90210 isn’t their latest album, though. At the end of April they released Skeletons, which you can (usually hehe) only get at Hot Topic.
We’ll close with a video, shall we?
I also found THIS VIDEO which was too frickin’ cool not to include, enjoy!
Until next time, this has been GlowStormLion reminding you that when you pick a song for you and your sweetheart, maybe don’t make it about embittered love the way me and my Pisces did - unless you’d be better off without ‘em!
